MOSQUITOS BY KATHERINE HAUTH

Mosquitos,

with needle-noses,

sucking blood,

 from elbows, cheeks and chin

Why were you not
designed to thrive
on brine,on swine,

or likewise-spiny

porcupines?
[Katherine Hauth]

💢Brief introduction of the poet.
  • Children's author and poet,Katherine B. Hauth grew up in Grand Rapids,Michigan.
  • After leaving a career as a personnel analyst in Seattle, she found herself drawn to the natural rhythms she encountered in the Southwest
  • She found nature to be essentially poetic as she lived far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • Many of her poems are inspired by her observations of animals while hiking-or just walking around her neighborhood.
💢Information on any significant / historical / environmental /  personal etc etc events that happen surrounding the creation of the poems.

  • There aren't any significant event regarding this poem but I can assume that the poet wrote this poem from the things she experienced.
  • We know that she has left the life in city and moved out to a place where she is exposed to more natural things-and that includes insects like mosquito.
  • It also suits the theme of the poem as children are often irritated by mosquitos and hate it.
